En el prólogo de la primera edición de esta obra, su preparador, Jesús Solano, precisaba el contenido de su trabajo: Nuestra intención ha sido presentar no una antología o florilegio, sino una colección lo más completa posible de los textos eucarísticos que nos han conservado la Sagrada Escritura y los Padres de la Iglesia. Y a esta intención responde igualmente esta nueva edición, que recoge íntegramente la selección de textos de la primera (en los dos volúmenes que componen la obra). La otra libertad recoge los escritos que el autor de la famosa Utopía y canciller de Inglaterra compuso en sus catorce meses prisionero del gobierno Tudor en la Torre de Londres: Un diálogo de la fortaleza en la tribulación, tal vez su obra maestra; La agonía de Cristo, un comentario íntimo y vehemente de los pasajes evangélicos; y varias instrucciones y plegarias. aunque no era la primera vez que Tomás Moro meditara sobre la muerte, su avanzada edad y su condición de prisionero por negarse a firmar el juramento que proclamaba a Enrique VIII «Cabeza Suprema de la Iglesia en Inglaterra» hizo de su condena una «intensa práctica de la muerte», según definió Sócrates la sabiduría filosófica. como tantos otros prisioneros, de la justicia o de la injusticia, esta figura del humanismo renacentista caminó así el sendero, oscuro y luminoso a un tiempo, que se abre a una libertad más honda y a menudo insospechada o despreciada, «la otra libertad». Como los de otros prisioneros en todos los tiempos, estos escritos, colmados de emoción y sentimiento, son una escuela de de sabiduría humana y cristiana.
